Ending the Year at a Cat Cafe

I spent a sizable portion of new year’s eve at Cafe MoCHA in Sakae. There, I played with some cute kitties, while I waited for 2018 to end.

Due to the holiday, the shop was busy, and it closed early. There was also the weekend/holiday price to concider.

However, I did only spend about $28 for three hours and unlimited drinks. So I guess it wasn’t too bad.

I did have fun with one cat in particular. A black scottish fold, who loved chest scratches.

Year of the Boar

In Sakae, there’s a faux-golden boar decoration. Thought it looked pretty cool, so I took a shot on my way back from the Cat Cafe.

Spring Cometh: Plum Blossom in Sakae

Yesterday was the first day of spring, so because it’s considered a holiday here, I had a day off from work. I woke up early, jumped on a train to Sakae, met up with some friends, and celebrated. Yesterday was super rainy for most of the day, so we stayed inside until mid-afternoon. Afterwards I went back to Nagoya station, ate, and did a bit of shopping at Tokyu Hands.

Sunshine Sakae

Last weekend I was in Nagoya for a doctor’s appointment, so I spent a little time in the city. Sakae, to be specific. Since I don’t get the chance so much anymore, I figured I would be touristy.

I rode the Sunshine Sakae Ferris Wheel. It wasn’t super impressive, but it was fun enough. I also videochatted with a friend during the ride.

For five hundred yen, its not a bad way to spend ten minutes.

Oasis 21 at Night

KIMG0781

The weather has been wonderful, so I’ve been trying to take advantage of it. After almost a year in the center of Nagoya, I’m being transferred to Anjo City. While it won’t be impossible to come to the big city, it will take much longer and be a bit more expensive.

During my walks, I found myself at Oasis 21 in Sakae. It’s a shopping area made of about four levels. These pictures were taken from the top level, which sports a reflecting pool/fountain and plexi-glass floor.

It’s also a pretty convenient location from where I am living now. It’s only a handful of stops away on the Sakuradori Line. I think I may visit this place from time to time, after my move.

Sakae at Night

During the holidays, Nagoya TV Tower hosted a special event showcasing the city-scape at night. It was with a special light show by a famous FX group called Naked.

The entry price was a little more expensive than the usual entrance fee, being 1000 yen instead of 700 yen, but it was well worth it.

The light show was pretty cool, but nothing compared to the city lights below. The indoor viewing deck shows a 360 degree view of the city. It is also 90 metres above street level.

From the deck, you can see Central Park, Oasis 21, the Sakae shopping district, Hisaya Oodori, and the famous Ferris Wheel. During the day, you can also go to the open air observation deck, above the enclosed one. It’s fenced in, and quite chilly on a windy day, but a whole 100 metres above street level. Unfortunately, during events such as these, that deck is closed to visitors.

Oasis 21

oasis21_01Oasis 21 is an interesting spot in the Sakae area of Nagoya. It’s surrounded by shopping, restaurants, and parks. This is the Spaceship-Aqua portion of the structure. It’s completely free to visit and very close to the Nagoya TV Tower (another famous Nagoya landmark).
