A Shock of Color

Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan

The leaves are starting to change. It’s slow going for now, but I’m expecting an explosion of color soon. When that happens, I plan to take a trip West, to Kyoto. I’m told that it’s one of the best places to see the fall foliage.

This weekend’s been rather nice. I’ve caught up on my sleep, enjoyed a couple of good meals, and spent a day exploring the city.

While Saturday’s weather was a bit cold and damp, Sunday was absolutely beautiful.  According to the forecasts, the temperatures were supposed to top out at around 43° F, but Sunday afternoon actually made to 50°.

I saw a few friends to celebrate another birthday, then went to a local restaurant for some sushi. At first, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to eat. It’s been a while since I last had sushi, so I thought I might go with my favorites: yellowtail and salmon.

On the way back, we cut through Briant Park. It was filled with tons of flowers. It was awesome!

Happy Holidays

Happy holidays all. Happy belated Chanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Christmas, Blessed Yuletide, Happy Winter Solstice, Happy New Year, and happy mid-week followed by an extended weekend to those whom do not celebrate the above.

The lights are back. The front of our apartment complex is covered in lights of varying sizes and colors. It looks fantastic at night, when I get home from work. It really improves my mood and cuts some of the winter-evening gloom caused by the sun setting at 4:30.

Before they All Fall

It gets dark so early now.

Last weekend, we set the clocks back, so the sun sets around 5 pm. As we get closer to the end of December, the days will continue to grow shorter, and the temperature colder. Soon enough, the trees will be bare, or worse: covered in snow!
