Tajimi 80th

I had a one-day assignment in Tajimi yesterday and saw this while at the station. Tajimi, which is a city in Gifu Prefecture, is famous for its pottery and ceramics.

When I first saw this display, I simply thought that it was a pretty piece of ceramic but when I returned to the station to go home, I found it lit up and quite pretty.

Sunset over Gifu

I had an assignment in Gifu last week. The school is on the 8th floor and has a lot of windows. During my break, I was able to get a picture of the sunset.

Recently, the sunset has been getting earlier. Since moving here, I’ve been struggling to get used to early mornings and evenings. It’s been 3.5 years but I still am surprised.

Goodbye for now, Gifu.

Saturday will be last day working in Gifu. While I’ve no longer been working there five days a week, I was still doing Saturdays there. From July, I’ll be working a bit closer to home.

Gifu Station

My work often takes me through JR’s Gifu station as of late. I must admit that I find myself liking the layout and overall design of the station, even if I can’t really say the same for the rest of Gifu.

The station features a huge courtyard and food court. The majority of the walkways leading from the station are elevated and covered, which makes traveling in not-so-great weather much easier.

It’s a much nicer station that the Meitetsu one, a couple of blocks away. Props to whoever designed it.

At Night

Near my current assignment, there’s a small park that I like to visit on my way home from work. It’s very peaceful, and since Gifu is closer to home than Toyohashi was, I’m not worried about getting home super late.

Gifu Cheerful Cherry Blossoms

It’s been surprisingly chilly out recently. The wind has also been rather blustery, adding to the chill. Because of this, this year’s blossoms are a bit late.

Tokyo and other cities have reported that their trees started blossoming at the end of March. I hope ours do so soon.

View from Gifu Tower 43

I recently had some free time, so I hopped on a train to Gifu. Since coming to Japan, I have never been to Gifu City, though I have worked in several schools in the prefecture. I thought it was time to remedy that.

The train ride was pretty short, since I took a rapid train. It was the afternoon rush hour (weekday), so I had to stand the entire trip, but the ride was only about fifteen minutes.

The station is pretty impressive, with a large plaza for meeting people and a long wooden boardwalk.

Nearby is Tower 43, a shopping mall, condominium, and observation area all in one. The observation area is completely free, which is nice. It is rather small however.

You can see a lot from the large windows and a one- sided-glass elevator connecting the first four floors and the forty third.

I ended up staying only about ten minutes, since there isn’t that much to see or do. The observation area is attached to a fancy restaurant, but when I was there it wasn’t open yet and really out my price range.

I would like to come back at night some time, to see the city lit up. I have a feeling it would be beautiful.
