A Bright New Start

I got a call from the company my brother works for yesterday. I was offered a job. The job starts later today. The commute is a bit long, but the pay and hours are good, so I can’t mind too much. Through it, I should be able to start paying down my loans.

From what was said yesterday, it looks like I’m going to be assigned to a similar department as my brother’s. I am now officially another cog in the corporate machine. I’m so happy!! ((I really am, I always wanted to have an office job like this.))

I will probably update either later today or tomorrow about my first impressions of my new job. Of course, I plan to omit anything too incriminating or anything that can traced back to the actual company or myself.

Wish me luck!

I feel like we’re all about to melt. It’s been super hot around here, with temperatures in the high 80s & heat indexes feeling like we’re in the 100s. It’s all been really unpleasant.

I hope it rains soon, just so I can go out of the house between 9 am and 7 pm. I don’t mind going out IN the rain at this point. It’s just water right?

I have so much time now, but I don’t know what to do with it all. I’ve been continuing the job search, working on my art, and trying out some new things. It’s starting to get really hot (we are getting closer to August, which is New York’s hottest month) so I haven’t been feeling or sleeping so well. I’m getting frustrated and irritated way too easily.

I think I’m going to try going out more (at least as much as my health will allow) just to do something. Maybe I’ll spend more time at the library since it is cooler there than outside.

Rainy Days

IMG_20150714_150107It’s raining, its pouring, I wish I was snoring. Went to bed with a thought in my head, up all night until morning.

So we had a hell of a storm yesterday and am in store for another two today. One’s supposed to be in about an hour or two, and the other to start around 2pm.

A Place to Put my Stuff

Brother and I have been talking a lot about moving as of late. He plans to get his own place soon and I’ve had the idea of moving overseas for a long time now. Eventually, we started to debate on which is preferable to live in: a house or an apartment.

I’ve always preferred studio or one room apartments. I’ve never seen the allure of living in anything bigger. Brother prefers life in a house.

To me, a living space is for a few things and a few things only. Any place I live will simply be a place to put my stuff, sleep, shower, and cook something to eat if I can’t find something elsewhere. That’s it.

When I was younger, I was a bit of a hoarder (which is quite a feat considering I was raised in a studio apartment). However, through the years my thoughts have shifted from the ‘stuff I own’ or the ‘stuff that I might want to have/need in the future’ to a desire to experience things. ((The only exception is food: I will horde the ever-loving-hell out of that.))

That isn’t to say that I won’t complain if said living-space is too hot/cold, doesn’t have enough outlets, or enough counter-space. It’s just that I don’t care if it’s tiny.

Brooklyn Bridge – City Hall / Chambers Street Area

During my stint in jury duty, I did get a little time to take a few pictures. I was on the very top of Manhattan (right next to the Brooklyn Bridge) and was quite taken by the architecture there.

Many of the buildings were constructed around the turn of the century, but there is also a few really modern buildings too.

A good number of the buildings in that area are extremely tall, including the court house I served in. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures (or even bring my phone) inside, but I got a (potato quality) photo from a few blocks away.

I think that I wouldn’t be opposed to visiting the area again, during my free time, or with a few friends.

Cleaning & Organization

I finally got around to moving all of the photos and videos off of my phone and on to my hard-drive. It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve been way too lazy to do it. Part of me expected it to take a much longer time (I had nearly 2 gigs of photos), yet it took all of 10 minutes.

Lapse in Activity

So, the last week I’ve been away on jury duty. I wasn’t picked for any cases (though it was a near thing), but I have spent more time than I would have liked inside a court room.

On my last day there, there was a draw for a 24 member grand jury, that was for a case lasting for an entire month. It was a daily thing too, so everyone had their fingers crossed, hoping that they wouldn’t be the ones picked. Everyone was praying ‘not me.’

I’m just glad to be done now. Now I can focus on more important things like finding a new job (lost the one I interviewed for because of jury duty– they can’t fire you if you’ve already got the job, but they can decide not to hire you) and saving money.

Happy Fourth!

It’s that time of the year again, when we stuff our selves with grilled foods, and frighten the neighborhood pets with loud, colorful explosions. Hope everyone has a good fourth, regardless if you celebrate or not (for those who don’t, hope you have a great Saturday).
